text 10 May HTC Desire vs iPhone - Part 2 - Settings

On the HTC Sense UI, iv been able to drop a few widgets, one of which makes a huge case for the Desire alone.  Its essentially a power management strip, but it consists of a series of buttons to toggle wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync, and brightness.

This, is frankly wonderful.

When I get out of my car, I don’t need bluetooth (bluetooth is something else ill go into). One swipe (to the correct screen) and one tap and its off.  This is great for battery management purposes.  Now, I know that OS4 is coming soon, but for this one – the Desire has it licked.

The range of configurability and customisation available on the iPhone pales in insignificance when compared to the plethora of toying around that can be done on the Desire.  That’s not to say you have a lot to set up on the desire, it works just fine out of the box – but the point is – if you want to – you can.

Apple could learn a lesson from all the jailbreaking that goes on.  When I jailbroke my iPhone (I should note that it’s not jailbroken anymore) it was because I wanted to be able to use springboard to enable / disable settings like gps, wireless and auto-rotation quickly and easily.

This kind of thing makes the HTC Desire a very fulfilling phone to use on a day-to-day basis. You know the battery is running low, you can turn some stuff off to save battery… and can turn it on again quickly…

The general upshot of this… score one HTC Desire.
